2014-12-10 - McLean Sunrise Ramble

~5 miles @ ~12.1 min/mi

Tiny ice crystals glitter on the McLean High School track in our flashlight beams. "I hate to be the one to say, 'Let's not'," I reply, when Kristen asks if we should run a lap to enhance the GPS trackfile map, "But let's not!"

At 0545 Kerry, Kristin, and I set off eastward, thankful for the layers we wear on this brisk morning. A gibbous moon hangs bright above the lights of Tysons Corner. David startles us when he materializes as we leave the MITRE parking lot. "You didn't stay home to bleach your sink today?" I tease. (That was his activity early one morning some months ago.) "No," he answers, "though I did cut up a pineapple already!"

We meander along neighborhood streets, admire Christmas lights, chat about work and play, etc. Kristin and Kerry overachieved with 6+ miles on Monday, so today we hold it to ~5, following the psoas injury recovery plan. Kerry, who plans to try a long trail run with me this Saturday, tells of encountering an ultrarunner at work yesterday who knows me, perhaps via VHTRC races? Small world! We're back on schedule and in plenty of time for everybody to get ready for a day of meetings and classes. Runkeeper records route.
